Aug 13, 2010

5:30 - 8 pm

Sunset Drive

295-6991

The public is invited to a mid-summer social this Friday night, August 13, with the businesses on Sunset Drive in Blowing Rock, NC.
Sunset Stroll commences at 5:30 PM, and locals and visitors alike will find galleries and stores open, serving light refreshments until 8:00 PM. All of the participating businesses will be flying balloons, so keep your eyes open as you stroll up and down Sunset Drive.
At the top of Sunset Drive you'll find lemonade and cookies at Jake's at the Rock where you can cool off. The store features Life is Good products, so you'll be feeling uplifted as you sip and stroll through the store. It's easy to pop in to neighboring Feather Your Nest Gallery as well as Christopher's Wine & Cheese. Christopher's will pique your interest in wines, and cheeses, as well as art with a special collection for Sunset Stroll: Janet Montgomery (encaustic), Jay Winston (acrylic on canvas), and Edy Gilreath (acrylic on canvas).
Live music at The Best Cellar on the lawn of The Ragged Garden Inn will draw you across Sunset Drive to three very special little businesses. All Things Pretty is full of temptations, and the good news here is that many of the summer items will be 30% - 50% off on the evening of the Sunset Stroll. So have some fun and save some money! You can locate the sales easily, because owner Dianna will mark them with balloons.
Next door is Mellow Mushroom Pizza, and maybe it's time for a beer break and a slice of Pizza. Keep moving, though, because the staff at Blowing Rock Estate Jewelry and Antiques will be expecting you. Refreshments, gems and timeless designs are the specialty here tonight.
Next door at Art & Artifacts guests will be treated to a wine and cheese reception honoring painter, Judi Russell, and potter, Charlie Tefft. The gallery also shows art by other local talents, and is home to Blowing Rock Gallery of Homes and Land.
Crippen's Restaurant and Country Inn has a shady porch where you can relax and listen to the music without sitting in the crowd. Your favorite drink is bound to be in one of those bottles behind this delightful little bar, and you can check out the dinner menu for later.
Next door is Morning Star Gallery, brimming with fine art and American crafts. You will receive a warm welcome, and enjoy drinks and refreshments while you admire the art of many regional artists such as Jonas Gerard, Bill Osterhaus, and Wes Waugh. Artist, Cher Cosper, will treat you to a painting demonstration, "People and Places," and the talented Louise Keranen will also be present with her paintings. Louise will be available, too, to help you with ideas about murals in your home or office. And a Trunk Show of Katya's Jewelry will surely delight the eye.
Just a little further down Sunset Drive, you’ll find DeWoolfson Linens, quite possibly the best little secret in all of Blowing Rock. All softness, this lovely store will share fragrance samples with you during Sunset Stroll.
Wind down your Sunset Stroll with dinner at one of the restaurants on Sunset Drive. Larry Imeson invites you to dine indoors or out with patio dining at Blowing Rock Grille; at Crippen’s Restaurant and Country Inn dinner can be on the porch or in the elegant dining room or even at the bar; Pizza at Mellow Mushroom makes a relaxed ending to the Stroll; and delicious dinner at The Best Cellar, replete with wine, makes a memorable end to a mid-summer night out.
Bring, friends, family, a good appetite and a curious mind. Come and enjoy this mid-summer Stroll on Sunset Drive.
