Fall color is on display across the entire area. While we hesitate to say there is consistent peak color in a given range, there are definitely some spots showing peak color right now. Yesterday’s view of the Linn Cove Viaduct is one example. There are maples all over Blowing Rock and Boone that are fully shifted to their fall glory. And there are some slopes along local drives that couldn’t get any prettier. In fact, here are some suggestions for some great fall drives right now:
-Blue Ridge Parkway between Blowing Rock and Grandfather Mountain
-Roby Greene Road in Boone
-Highway 321 between Blowing Rock and Boone
-Shull’s Mill Road in Blowing Rock
-Flat Top Road in Blowing Rock
There are many more, of course, so we encourage exploring those back roads and narrow highways.

Today’s photo is from Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock, showing some of those flaming red maples: fall color at Chetola resort

The view of the lake from this location shows the ridge above Valley Boulevard. It’s a good example of what many slopes at this elevation look like today.
