Light rain and heavy mists and fog in the area today make long-distance color viewing difficult. However, the mists always add a certain beauty to the scene, so there is still plenty to enjoy about a foggy fall day in the High Country. If you have the chance in the next several days, we highly recommend a drive from Boone to Linville along Highway 105. The color is peaking in the Linville area right at Grandfather Mountain, and the foliage in Foscoe is really coming along. Today’s image is from Highway 105 in Foscoe, at the intersection across from the road to Seven Devils. The mists on the slopes of Grandfather Mountain shroud the higher ridges, creating a really scenic view. You can see that the slopes in the background are not yet at peak in this location, and should be showing increasing color in the coming days. The coming week will offer peak color viewing for the areas between Blowing Rock and Grandfather Mountain, particularly along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
