"Herbs for the Fun of It" Luncheon and Presentation

For the early American pioneer, growing herbs for seasoning and preserving food,

repelling insects and dying fabrics was a necessity. Today, many gardeners are discovering the joy and pleasure of growing their own herb gardens. Indoors or out, in beds or pots, herbs are easy to grow, require little space and add color and fragrance to your environment. Growing herbs encourages the gardener to use more herbs in food preparation and perhaps even create new recipes.

Pat Collins, the current president of the Blowing Rock Garden Club, will lead an interactive discussion on how to grow, harvest and store herbs as well as how to use herbs in cooking and baking. You are invited to share your favorite recipe using herbs. Snacks made with fresh herbs will be available for tasting. Each attendee will receive a potted herb to take home.

Following the workshop, join us for a lunch featuring herb-inspired recipes by Chef James.

Advance registration is required for this program.  Please contact the Blowing Rock Chamber with your name and email or address to register.  Reservations required by June 6th.

Hostas of Blowing Rock

Brunch and Home Garden Tour

Susan Sweet, past president of the Blowing Rock Garden Club, is a co-chair of the

Mile of Flowers event in June 2013.  Susan will talk about the large variety of lush hostas familiar to most  Blowing Rock gardens and also on the history of hostas and how they came to the Western World.  Also included will be an education of the care and feeding of the plants and how and when to separate them.  After lunch, take a ten minute drive to visit Susan's private garden where you will stroll among the more than one hundred varieties of hostas in her woodland garden.  You will also be able to enjoy her many varieties of daylilies and perennials in her terraced gardens.

Susan has been an avid gardener for many years, but became interested in shade gardens when she moved to the Blowing Rock area eight years ago.   She and her husband David are "do-it-yourselfers" who have spent the last five years terracing their steep yard overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains.

A wonderful buffet brunch in Timberlake's Restaurant preceeds the presentation.

Timberlake's at Chetola   9:45am  $18

Reservations Required.  Tickets for all events excluding those at  BRAHM and Green Park Inn
